TO PROMOTE VOLUNTEERISM AS A MEANS OF FOSTERING INCREASED CITIZEN INVOLVEMENT IN THE
COMMUNITY AND ENABLING PUBLIC AND PRIVATE NON-PROFIT AGENCIES TO ENHANCE OR MAINTAIN
NEEDED HUMAN SERVICES.
The Volunteer Center acts as an advocate for volunteerism
by:
EDUCATING AGENCIES in methods of working with volunteers.
PROVIDING STAFF ORIENTATION for potential volunteers.
UTILIZING VOLUNTEERS TO IDENTIFY AND ADDRESS COMMUNITY
ISSUES to insure the enrichment of California’s
Golden Empire.
INTERVIEWING and REFERRING VOLUNTEERS to
over 3,500 appropriate
agencies:
SCHOOLS:
- as classroom aids, on a one-to-one basis.
- math/reading tutors.
- physical education assistants and playground monitors.
- assisting librarians, nurses, secretarial and clerical staff.
AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY:
-assist cancer patients as volunteer drivers. -participate as Relay for Life volunteers/participants. -volunteer at the Discovery Shop to provide local
program funding.
CAPK PARTNERSHIP FOOD BANK/GOLDEN EMPIRE GLEANERS: -distribute food to thousands of local
families/organizations. -assist with annual food drives, special events and
fundraisers.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: -join local families in realizing “home ownership” dreams. -assist in planning and constructing affordable housing.
HOMELESS/DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTERS: -assist in providing safe environments for individuals and
families. -prepare and serve meals. -encourage independence with job development skills.
ISSUE EDUCATION: -identify issues facing local communities. -participate in community forum discussions. -encourage community volunteers to link with local partners.
AND MANY OTHER agencies which benefit the community and
could not function at full potential without volunteer assistance.
